Aquatics Review 2016

On Monday and Tuesday of week 5 all the year 6/7 classes (Rooms 17, 19, 28 and 29) and Mrs Guinan’s  year 5/6 class (25) went to Port Noarlunga beach for aquatics. The year 6/7’s go there for 2 days every year to learn new activities.

On Monday morning we got on the bus to go to aquatics. When we got there we sat down and listened to the instructors talk about all of the rules and safety instructions. After that, we went to our instructor for our first activity. My first activity was surfing. Our instructor’s name was Steve. We got into wetsuits and then walked a long way to the surfboards on the beach. When we finally got there we chose a surfboard. Then Steve taught us how to surf by us putting our surfboards on the ground. We then learnt how to stand  up on our board. Once we had learnt how to surf we went down to the water but there weren’t many waves. I had a lot of fun surfing but I didn’t end up standing up on my board. After we finished surfing we walked back up to where our bags were and had our recess. After recess we went to our next activity, which for me was wave skiing. We walked a long way again, but not as long as the walk for surfing, to get to the wave skis. When we got there we got helmets and paddles. I had fun but I found surfing more fun. After we had lunch we put on our thick socks and went out to walk on the reef. We saw star fish and crabs. There were mussels all over the reef. It was fun.

On Tuesday morning we went to aquatics again. For surfing there were no waves really so we had to use boogie boards. It was still fun. We made rafts and saw how many people we could get standing up on it. Our record was 3 people. We tried to get 4 but they all fell off after trying to stand up. We had recess after that. At wave skiing we paddled to the reef and walked on it bare foot. Everyone else in my group (Danica, Chloe, Tahli and Talitha) jumped in a big hole of water but I didn’t want to because Chloe and Danica both got hurt and also because I didn’t feel comfortable doing it. We all then jumped in to the ocean to swim back to our wave skis but our instructor Judy walked back on the reef. When we got back to the wave skis we paddled back to the beach and went to have lunch. After lunch the year 6’s went on the reef walk and the year 7’s went on a very long walk to the river and back. We had a year 7 photo on the bridge. We also got to walk in the river. On the way back we walked along the beach and in the water. Some people had races on the sand.

I learnt how to surf and I got better at wave skiing. I think that to improve it maybe they could let us do it for more than 2 days. If I did it another time I would probably want to try out doing snorkling, kayaking (I did it last year and had fun), surfing again and sail boarding. All of them I think would be fun to try out and would make a good experience.

I had a lot of fun at aquatics this year.
